The MAFELL BST 460 S drilling station is designed for highly precise drilling in solid wood and glulam. Its robust yet lightweight aluminium-profile column provides a stable basis for accurate drilling and offers significant advantages over conventional drill stands.
The single-column guide provides excellent visibility of the marking and drill tip. The open construction leaves sufficient space for changing drills and helps prevent the machine from tilting during drilling.
A key feature is the 80 mm high, six-roller drill guide. The vertically mounted rollers are continuously adjustable using an iris-style mechanism, allowing the drill to be guided precisely and reducing the risk of the drill wandering. The guide accommodates drill diameters from 8 to 30 mm.
The special advantage of the S version is its swivelling column. The BST 460 S can be precisely adjusted by up to 45° in both directions using the integrated angle scale and can be locked at 0°. The drill tip is positioned at workpiece-surface level and forms the pivot point, allowing the existing marking references to remain accurate during angled drilling.
The adjustable polyethylene rope tension allows the return force to be adapted to the working position. This is particularly useful for horizontal drilling, where reduced feed pressure can make operation more comfortable. After drilling, the integrated rope system returns the carriage towards its starting position.
For repetitive drilling and hole patterns, the standard insert plate can be replaced with an optional copy insert. This allows the BST 460 S to be used with drilling templates. The optional parallel stop with side stop is particularly useful for series production and end-grain drilling. Drilling depth can be set quickly and precisely using the integrated scale.
The BST 460 S is designed for drilling wood and wood-based materials in combination with a suitable drilling machine with a 43 mm clamping neck.
