MAFELL Z 5 Ec portable band saw

The MAFELL Z 5 Ec portable band saw is a powerful professional machine designed for demanding timber construction and renovation work. As the innovative successor to the legendary Z 3, it combines a high-performance CUprex motor, magnesium die-cast components, high torque and precise band guidance in a compact design.

With a 305 mm cutting depth, the Z 5 Ec is suitable for processing large material thicknesses. Its high cutting precision produces an excellent cutting pattern and highly accurate right-angle cuts. The machine is designed for both longitudinal and cross cuts as well as curved cuts, profiling, notches and housings in solid wood and glued laminated timber.

The ball-bearing saw band guides provide excellent band running and contribute to precise cutting results. Saw bands up to 8 mm wide can be used, providing flexibility for both profiling and curved work on rafters and purlins.

The saw band side can be swivelled from 0° to 30°, making the Z 5 Ec suitable for a wide range of angled cuts. Its distinctive swivelling saw band guide also enables right-angle cuts up to 90 mm deep without the second saw band touching the workpiece, which is particularly useful for housings and similar applications.

The powerful motor's cooling air is used to clear the cutting line, helping to keep the marked line visible during work and reducing chips at head height. The newly developed control technology and performance-optimised digital electronics provide high torque and extreme power, while the speed can be continuously adjusted to suit the application.

For demanding timber construction work, the Z 5 Ec can be used for longitudinal and cross cuts, curved cuts and profiling, notches and housings, as well as hip rafter cuts and angled notches in two-man operation. The supplied rear-toothed saw band makes it easier to retract the machine from the timber; together with the mechanical brake, this supports controlled operation.

The lower guide roller is spring-preloaded, allowing quick and easy saw band changes. A voltage-drop switch prevents uncontrolled restarting after a power interruption, adding an important safety function for professional use.
